There’s a place here for you

You are welcome, wherever you are in life

HM Queen Elizabeth II

It is with profound sadness that we join with the citizens of our own nation and with people around the world in mourning the death of our Queen and in praying for her family that God will draw near with them and comfort them. We also thank God for her incredible life of humility and service over many decades which has set such a powerful witness and example to us all.

In these turbulent times we can draw strength from her words taken from a recent Christmas broadcast:

“I know how much I rely on my faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning, I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give the best in all that the day brings and to put my trust in God.”

St Mary’s Speldhurst is open during the day for anyone who wishes to spend time in prayer and books of condolence are available for anyone who wishes to leave a message.

Highlights this month

  • Song of the month
Our song of the month is ‘Benediction Song’ by Mark and Helen Johnson. The words have been adapted slightly to fit our new church vision statement, ‘Growing the love of Jesus in our community’. We’ll be listening to it and church and learning to sing it.  Click here if you would like to listen at home.

  • ‘Growing through summer’ activities checklists
As you take part in these activities, read your Bible, meditate, pray or listen to some Christian music. They range from watching the clouds, to creative challenges. Children’s version | Adults’ version
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience ... Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:12,14

Each week we have a personal story in our online videos. Here, Lel reflects on faith, her upbringing in Zimbabwe, and why despite hardships, her family never doubted the presence of God.

“Definitely so much more than a beautiful building! St Mary’s for us has been a warm and friendly church where we have made friends right across the age ranges.”
