How We Worship at St Mary’s

Music and services are part of our worship, but we also try to worship God all through the week, in our time with Him, and in the way we live our lives.

Our Church Services

Our main 10am church services follow a contemporary CofE pattern and we try to make them as accessible as possible. The children enjoy being part of the main congregation at the beginning and end of each service, just leaving for a sparky 20 minute session to have their own focus on the topic, whilst the adults are listening to the sermon.

Once a month, we have a full all-age service instead.

We also have one traditional service most weeks, such as evensong or Holy Communion, which make the most of the timeless peace of the church.

In COVID times, our YouTube services were a big hit, and we’re continuing them every fortnight, in addition to the in-church services. They have a mix of songs, hymns, liturgy, teaching, and testimonies, lasting 30-40 minutes.

Our Music Styles

Our wonderful music group bring alive contemporary worship songs and timeless hymns, with keyboard, guitar and organ.

You’ll find plenty of modern worship from writers like Stuart Townend, the Gettys and Matt Redman in our repertoire. But you also won’t have to look far for beautiful, timeless compositions by Isaac Watts, Thomas Chisholm, or John Rutter.

Our Homegroups

When we meet and explore our faith together and give thanks and pray, that’s worship.

Our friendly weekday homegroups are the fabric of our church, and there’s a place in them for everyone.

Worship in Life

Our children’s groups, youth groups, social groups and the way we try to be involved with the community are all worship.

Wider Worship

Large numbers of St Mary’s members worship and refuel together at Spring Harvest each year; and events like our bi-annual Men’s Walking Weekend in Cumbria are a great chance to worship and grow and socialise in the heart of God’s country.
