Youth Groups

The teenage years are a wild ride. We’re here to provide love, friendship and a reliable Christian compass.

Xplode

School Years 7-9

This group meets weekly in term times on Wednesdays between 7.30pm and 8.30pm in or around St Mary’s church. All are welcome.

Xplode can sometimes be noisy and full of chat; we always have a game or two, as well as starting with a hot drink and biscuits.

We want it to be a place where our young people feel able to share any pressures they may be feeling under at home or school, and to start to develop their own relationship with Jesus, getting to know the love and support that he brings each one of us. And we take some time for quiet reflection and prayer at the end too.

We love socials together: Youth Alpha courses, barbecues, a Scripture Union Light Party, walks, bonfires, outings to the climbing wall etc. If you are interested in coming along, then please just get in touch!

Ignite

School Years 10-13+

Ignite normally meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings during term time, beginning with eating together– pasta, pizza or pudding being favourites. We want talking about Jesus and discovering a relationship with Him to be as natural as being with family.

In addition to our discussions and Bible study, we enjoy fun social times too.

As we went into lockdown, our meetings quickly switched to Zoom but sadly without the eating together!

We look forward to being able to meet face to face as soon as we possibly can, for BBQs, walks in the woods and joining up with other Christian events. But in the meantime, if you are in this age group, do contact us and get to know everyone via Zoom.

Outback

School years 5-10+

In normal times, Outback is a weekly haven away from the pressures of school life. While the main service is going on, we do some Bible study, play some games, laugh, and talk about the things that matter to us.  When the weather’s good, we like to head outside.

We meet every Sunday at 10am in the church building apart from the first Sunday of the month, which is an all-age service.

In COVID times, we’re sorry that there’s no Outback, but our online worship works for all ages and we always love young people’s input into it.

Bellringing

If you’d like to try your hand at something completely different, how about announcing your presence in the village by learning bellringing.

You need to be fit enough to climb the tower stairs and tall enough to reach the ropes – normally from about age 11.

There’s no ringing during Covid times, but practice with our experienced team is normally on Tuesday evenings, and ringing is on Sundays and for weddings.

Contact Eric Roughley our tower captain (telephone 863222) or Anthony Leeves our tower secretary (telephone 531104) if you are interested.

“I like the freshness of the children’s ideas, and their enthusiasm for life in Outback!“
